Counting Macros is becoming super popular amongst bodybuilding and other fitness gurus. Most recently, it is becoming more mainstream and is being used by all types of people. Famous Instagrammers/YouTubers flaunt their success and results on their social channels daily! Don’t let this discourage you as it’s super easy to start!

 

The most basic way to think about counting Macros or known as if it fits your macros (IIFYM) is eating the things that give you the most energy. Unlike other diets and weight loss programs, IIFYM allows you to eat freely if you stay within your limits of allowed macronutrients. This plan is all about putting the best and most efficient fuel in your body: Protein, Carbs and Fats. Hence why you see all these fit people on instagram flexing their donuts freely.

 

After developing a routine of meal planning and eating habitats is really where someone can make progress with this diet. For the dieting newbie, meal planning by counting macros is a good way to get a handle on portion control, says Ariane Hundt, a clinical nutrition coach in New York City. “It helps people understand where their calories come from and what impact they have on the body,”   

 

Before diving right into counting, it is essential to develop a structure to follow. This would have to do with one’s goals such as: Gain, loss and Maintain. Once that is sorted out then you can create your own set of numbers and limits to abide by. The general rule would be to eat within these limits: 50% Carbs, 25% Protein, 25% Fats. That seems to be almost the same for everyone. With macros you’re not depriving your body of nutrients, you are simply just restructuring the way you fuel up! Doing this in the most efficient way is a key to success, but this doesn’t just apply to dieting this can apply to all facets of life. Streamlining any process will increase efficiency!
